Built to Inspire: Stratford Prep Milpitas

At Dome, some projects are defined by their complexity. Others are defined by their purpose. Stratford Prep Milpitas was both.

Developed for Spring Education Group, the new private high school campus in Milpitas serves grades 9–12 and marks Stratford School’s second preparatory high school. When the team broke ground, the mission was clear: deliver a campus that was fully ready to welcome its first class of students, on time, on budget, and built to inspire.

Built on Trust, Delivered on Time

With the first day of school as the hard deadline, the team had eleven months to make it happen. That kind of schedule demands trust, alignment, and a team that’s all-in from day one. Close coordination between the client, design team, and trade partners from the earliest stages of construction made the difference, especially when early permit delays threatened to disrupt the timeline. By working directly with the design team and the City of Milpitas to secure temporary permits, the team kept inspections and critical work moving forward without missing a beat.

Setting the Structure, Rain or Shine

One of the most memorable milestones came during the construction of the ground-up gymnasium. Foundations were poured through the winter rainy season, followed by the careful sequencing of tilt-up concrete wall erection and the installation of 20 structural roof trusses, a technically demanding effort that came together through precise coordination with trade partners. The finished gym, paired with outdoor athletic spaces and an artificial turf field, gives students a place to compete, recreate, and build community in the heart of an urban setting.

Building Smart Without Cutting Corners

Throughout the project, the team worked hard to protect both the budget and the vision. Early collaboration on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems uncovered cost-saving opportunities that allowed the project to retain elevated finishes, including LVT flooring, enhanced lighting, and large-format stone in the main lobby. The result is a campus that feels as considered and intentional as the school community it was built to support.

The most rewarding part of the project was going from weekly job walks with the school team during construction to watching students walk through the doors on their first day.
