Introducing Cynthia Seward, Dome’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Specialist.

Following our celebration of Construction Inclusion Week (link to here: https://www.constructioninclusionweek.com/), we are thrilled to share a special announcement.

We are excited to announce that Cynthia Seward has been promoted to our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Specialist.

As our DEI Specialist, Cynthia will play a central role in implementing and facilitating the execution of diversity and inclusion development and strategies. Cynthia will focus on diversifying our list of trade partners and vendors and building relationships with Minority Business Enterprises.  She will also support our internal programs for expanding equity and inclusion education and working on restructuring our internal processes to remove bias.

Cynthia has been a proud employee of Dome for over twenty years and has supported many teams along the way. Our Diversity Team crafted this role with Cynthia’s unique skills and background in mind.  She has built incredible relationships with trade partners throughout her lifelong career at Dome as a project engineer and estimator.  In addition to her professional expertise, Cynthia brings the perspective of being a black woman in the construction industry and understands the microaggressions and struggles that can bring. Most importantly, Cynthia loves Dome, she loves the construction industry, and she is dedicated to helping create a more inclusive environment for all.

More About Cynthia

What do you like most about Dome?

What initially attracted me to Dome and why I’ve remained for over 20 years is that they are committed to fostering a culture of integrity, are always willing to innovate, share a passion and excitement for all things construction and treat their employees, clients, and trade partners like family.

What are you looking forward to accomplishing as Dome’s new Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Specialist?

I am most excited about building new partnerships and further strengthening the relationships with our existing trade partners.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone beginning their career in the construction industry, what would it be?

Take stock of your strengths, be willing to challenge yourself by doing something a little scary every day, and seek wise counsel in whatever form: a book, a mentor, a podcast, or a friend/coworker. I couldn’t pick just one!

How do you start your day?

I like to start my day with quiet alone time, a huge cup of herbal tea or espresso, a short meditation, and trying to work in some exercise. A coworker got me hooked on Soul Cycle, and I also love the workouts from Vicky Justiz’s Daily Thrive app.

What makes you feel most like yourself?

When I am laughing

What is inspiring you in life right now?

People and their stories inspire me. We all have had to endure some form of struggle, and we’re really more alike than different.

How would you define yourself in three words?

Never stop learning.
