John Tontz

Meet John Tontz. Our first Project Manager in Dome Construction’s new San Diego office.

John is the epitome of what it means to be a native San Diegan. His laid-back demeanor, welcoming smile, and an innate ability to never miss an opportunity to tell you just how beautiful his city and the people are, tells you a lot about John.

With over 15 years of experience, John is a true seasoned veteran in the San Diego Market. John’s expertise range from ground-up high-rise buildings to smaller tenant improvement projects and everything in between. Every project is different, but John’s dig-into-the-details mentality is always a constant, with a strong focus on delivering projects that exceed client expectations.

Work with John once, and you will quickly find out that he is passionate about construction, San Diego, and building lasting relationships. Three must-haves for joining our growing San Diego team.

We sat down with John Tontz to learn a bit more about his construction experience and to better understand some of the things he’s looking forward to as he builds his San Diego team.

Can you tell me about your professional background?

I’ve been lucky to have worked my whole career in San Diego. Throughout those years, I worked with some pretty special people that have become more than co-workers and clients. When I think about myself as a professional and how others view me, I believe those people would describe me as very versatile, and that can wear many hats to reach a common goal.

What experience do you bring to Dome?

I’ve been in the industry for over 15 years and have been apart of some really cool projects. Throughout each project, I’ve been a part of, I’ve learned things that have shaped and molded me into the professional I am today. By bringing my San Diego experience and my tenure in the industry along with my commitment to learning and growing, I’m excited to add to the already seasoned Dome professionals.

What are you looking forward to most about bringing Dome’s presence to San Diego?

The big thing to me is the experience that everyone will walk away with at the end of the project. Dome does business a better way, and it’s ingrained in their culture, and it is simple: “value our people,” which encompasses everyone from employees to trade and business partners. This value has worked for us for the last 50 years, and it will continue to do so for the next 50!

How do you see the office of San Diego developing in the next 5 years?

I see us building on the Dome culture and incorporating our San Diego influence. San Diego is a great place to work and live and has some of the best people in the industry. I’m looking forward to our relationships with employees and business partners extending beyond the workplace.

What do you like most about the company?

It really still feels like a big family. If you need something or someone, you can just pick up the phone. It’s an experience that employees and clients rarely in the industry can experience.

Finish the sentence: When I’m not working I’m…

I’m working on my golf swing!
